Things
That Do Not Cause Miscarriage:
Most
daily routines do not increase the risk of miscarriage. There are no indications
that work, exercise, having sex, or the use of birth control pills prior to
getting pregnant increases a woman's risk.
Often women who have had a miscarriage believe that it was caused by a recent |
fall,
blow, or even a fright. The truth is that in most miscarriages the foetus died a
few weeks before the miscarriage occurred.
The
nausea and sickness that is so common in early pregnancy also doesn’t increase
the risk. (Actually, women who have severe stomach upset have a lower risk of
miscarriage according to some doctors).
Symptoms
of Miscarriage:
Heavy
bleeding is the most common sign of miscarriage.
Your doctor should always be notified of any spotting/bleeding, heavy or
persistent bleeding or any rushes of any fluid from the vagina.
Vaginal
spotting/bleeding during the early months of pregnancy is normal for many women
and does not always indicate that a miscarriage is imminent.
In fact some light spotting can indicate that the placenta is attaching
correctly to the uterus wall.
If
heavy bleeding occurs or it is suspected that some foetal tissue has been
passed, then your doctor will check for a dilated cervix (in which case a
miscarriage is the certain diagnosis).
After
a Miscarriage:
Often when miscarriage occurs during early pregnancy, tissue is left in the uterus that can either be a part of the foetus or the placenta or both. If your practitioner has any concerns about infection then this tissue will be removed by use of the Dilation and Curettage procedure.
