1. Does pregnancy diminish a woman's sexual desires?
The first thing to point out is that there are no two women that react in exactly the same way to pregnancy.
During the first trimester, many women suffer from sickness (morning or evening) and also much fatigue and many hormonal changes. This can result in a diminished appetite for sexual intercourse during this time, however over the full course of the nine months, in the majority of women, pregnancy doesn't have a |
significant effect on their interest in sex.
In the case of women who have previously found that some contraception methods were always an interruption or a psychological obstacle, pregnancy can become a period of sexual indulgence free of obstacles and without reservations.
Sometimes expectant mothers tend to feel that during the pregnancy they lose their figure and attractiveness and tend to avoid sexual contact with their partner believing that that is what he wants. Alternatively the contrary may apply, and to make sure that their partner still loves them, and still finds them attractive, they look for continued or increased sexual activity.
Very occasionally some women feel infinite loathing for coital affairs while pregnant, based on a conscious or unconscious fear of injuring the foetus. These unconscious fears may also arise if previous early pregnancy loss has been experienced.
Also, many women find that the extra blood flowing around the abdominal area actually increases the sensitivity and enjoyment of sex. This can lead to heightened sexual experiences for the both of you.
