2. Can vigorous copulation damage the baby?
It is almost impossible to injure the foetus by having sex whilst it is in the womb. The amniotic liquid in which it floats, the membrane that surrounds it, the abdominal wall and the pelvis, all contribute to provide good physical protection. Also the thick mucus membrane that covers the cervix protects against infection. |
The only danger to the child from intercourse is caused by the man being on top whilst resting his weight on her stomach. If she feels uncomfortable in any way, GET OFF and try another approach (see next pages).
Many men fear that penetration will damage their new baby; this is a normal but unfounded fear. The best solution is to ask your partner how much penetration is comfortable for her and allow her to be your guide. Remember that there is a large membrane that covers the entrance to the uterus at the cervix so no mater what size or length the penis is, it only ever enters the vaginal cavity and never into the actual uterus.
