My girlfriend is 36 weeks pregnant and according to the ultrasound she had a 38 weeks sized baby and that it was weighing 7 pound! Is that normal?  The doctor was shocked!! but he said everything was ok. 

Is it good to have big babies like mine?

Don't worry!  Big babies are just fine and they tend to thrive after birth. The tendency in the modern world is for larger babies, so there's nothing to fear, it just means that they are getting all the nutrition that they need. 

In the last year, I have heard from friends of various baby birth weights between 2.5Kg right up to 4.5Kg in one particular instance, and every one of them is doing well.
