Baby's Development:

After the fertilisation, the cell begins to divide.  It takes about 4 days for the impregnated egg to reach the uterus.

At present, your baby is what is known as a blastocyte (or Blastula), a mass of about 100 cells.  The external part of this blastocyte will become the placenta.  The internal part will become the embryo.

Some women can immediately know instinctively when they are pregnant... "I just know it! I can feel it!"

For those of you that don't have this insight, don't worry... you'll know soon enough.

Even if you're closely working together with your partner on this project and following each menstrual period closely, you will probably still remain in blissful ignorance for a couple more weeks.

If she tells you that she "feels" pregnant.... Well OK, you can start to stress a little now if you really must... get ready for the big "p.ss on a stick" test in the next weeks.

Useful Information:

There are no biological indications that allow you to confirm your pregnancy yet.  The ß-hCG hormones are only released after about the 8th day, just as the fertilised egg fixes itself into the uterine wall, so you cannot even run an accurate blood test to see a difference.  See our article on b-hCG Levels in Pregnancy for further detail.
