Baby's Development:

At the end of the third week, the embryo is well fixed in the wall of the uterus.  Your future baby is no longer a fertilised egg, it has become an embryo.

The brain and the backbone begin to form.

The external covering changes also and begins to start the process of creating the placenta and the amniotic cavity (which will surround the placenta).

The heart is still being formed, but it already beats!

Her Emotions:

So!  This is the week that you will make the test!

The prospect of a future baby takes full control of your mind, your imagination is running wild and you swing between a sweet serenity and an anxious mess.

Some lucky women have no nausea at all, in others it can make the start to each day very unpleasant.

His Emotions:

GET POSITIVELY INVOLVED NOW!

If your partner wants to surprise you with  a urine test, gift wrapped and presented with a shy smile, then so be it, but don't look at her and say "What the hell is that?" or "Urgh! is that full of your pee?".

Know what to expect beforehand.  You are looking for TWO clear lines, one in each of the little windows in the stick (normally either blue or pink on a white background).  If there is only one line visible in one window and the other is empty, then it is a negative test that she is showing to you.

If you are not a novice at this game, then you can probably get involved more by being there while she makes the test, then waiting with her and watching the colour appear (or not). Share the expectation and excitement (or disappointment) together.

HOWEVER, don't get pushy!  it's OK to be sitting close by and sharing it all, but most women don't want you to hold the stick whilst they pee! They know better than you which direction it will be going.

Having said that, I know one particular lady that has wet on her own hand on more than one occasion whilst trying this little test.

Useful Information:

Make an appointment now with your gynecologist so that he/she can confirm the pregnancy.  If your  gynecologist is also an obstetrician, then you can stay with that person (recommended), however, if not, once pregnancy is confirmed, you should get an appointment with an obstetrics specialist.

Start making a list of questions for your doctor.  You will never remember everything during the consultation.
